MULTICENTAUR-CFT system operation diagram.
The HEUTHES company has developed a new technology: Heuristics Pattern Finder (HPF) for heuristic matching of data with a large quantity of patterns. It has been created on the basis of performance pattern of a finite-state automaton (machine) with elements of artificial intelligence, heuristic techniques and sets of advanced algorithms for fuzzy matching and search.
HPF is yet another technology, which is a result of a long standing HEUTHES research & development policy, which has been in place since the foundation of the company. The name of the company takes its origin from two Greek words "heuristics" and "thesaurus". Heuristics means 'to discover' and it describes a method of solution finding, whereas thesaurus means 'treasure', 'knowledge storehouse'. The two words put together articulate the philosophy of the company, which basis its operations on the knowledge of problem solutions.
Application of HPF technology
HPF technology has been developed to aid the needs of Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) solutions, which support preventing Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing. As a result of this technology it is possible, among others, to identify in financial transactions the presence of customers, organizations and countries, which are subject to sanctions and embargoes. The HPF technology allows for example: to search for duplicate information in databases, to prevent creation of redoubled records not only through simple “exact hit” matching of data with a pattern, but also by including misspellings, anagrams, letter omissions, word inversions, orthographic mistakes, abbreviations, phonetic variations, etc. As a consequence, information is provided, which contains the probability with which the examined sample matches the list selected from a large quantity of patterns. Another example of its application is matching bank statements with invoices, taking into account distortions in information provided within the statements. The new technology can be readily integrated with any application functioning in Web Services technology.
The first product, which has been developed on the basis of HPF is the new version of MULTICENTAUR-CFT (MC-CFT), the information system which is designed for the banking sector. The system is dedicated to combating money laundering and financing of terrorism. The new solution works in on-line mode, monitors all transactions and enables execution of a number of operations on identified transactions.
MULTICENTAUR-CFT engine also handles the feedback function (Data Mining, Machine Learning), which results from the decision made by the operator, concerning whether a given message has been initially correctly stopped. An advanced algorithm parametrization is also possible to support specific application purposes. The system is characterized by high efficiency, for example, for 2,5 million patterns the response time is 50 ms.
Modern technologies have been used during the design phase of the development process in order to guarantee high scalability of the system. The architecture of the solution is independent of the hardware platform and can be integrated with any application. HEUTHES plans to implement the HPF in other solutions, such as a factoring support system and enterprise management system.
Within the framework of MULTICENTAUR-CFT system the following elements can be examined: financial messages currently handled by the MULTICENTAUR system (SWIFT, TARGET2, SEPA, SORBNET2, Checks, Payment Gateway) can be examined as well as messages from bank's other systems relayed directly to SWIFT Alliance Access.
The proposed solution, MULTICENTAUR-CFT, consists of a number of functional areas, among which we can list:
MC-CFT helps banks fulfill KNF recommendations
In Poland the anti-money laundering and combating of the financing of terrorism system is made up of:
The international institutions primarily include:
Effective protection in this area, requires above all, international co-operation, including the implementation of international standards, which individual countries should apply, while taking into consideration its own internal threats to financial stability. An example of such co-operation are 2012 FATF Recommendations, which are the compendium of AML/CFT regulations (Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism). They are implemented by over 180 countries around the world, affiliated with FATF as well as regional bodies similar to it.
Polish translation of FATF Recommendations is made available by The Supreme Audit Office, which recommends its implementation by the banks. The MULTICENTAUR-CFT system, developed by HEUTHES, helps banks to fulfill these recommendations.
How to buy and implement MC-CFT?
HEUTHES offers two models of MULTICENTAUR-CFT implementation, which includes integration with (to be selected):
As a result of Client-Web-Server technology, the MULTICENTAUR-CFT system can be integrated with any solution already implemented by the bank. This is achieved through the use of Web Services, MQ Service, ESB data bus, as well as through a system of file exchange. The implementation of MULTICENTAUR-CFT system does not require any intrusion into other solutions already operating in the bank. As a consequence of this approach, the entire solution is characterized by high efficiency and does not influence the pace of data processing in the bank.
